High Tech Tracking of Bird Flu Underway

By using the tools and resources at our disposal we can better track and protect human populations should a bird flu virus with a human strain become common place. What sorts of tracking tools can we use? Well there are a couple of strategies here. One we can use the cases from hospitals and doctors and plot them using ArcView ESRI Software.

The other important way to track bird flu is to track the paths of migratory birds using Satellites, spatial data and super computers, just like we track Tornatic Cells, Hurricanes and the Weather. Luckily we have contingency plans for all of this and the scientists are working on the High Tech Tracking of Bird Flu and have plans in the works, which are well underway.

Currently our scientific experts have created a database Internet based application to help share information on virus samples collected and the call it; HEDDS or HAPI Early Detection Data System. The database can be used for more than just bird flu and the model used makes a lot of sense to help protect the American People.

All of this is being coordinated thru the USGS National Wildlife Health Center and they are working with the CDC and other groups in the event of a National Catastrophe of Bird Flu pandemic. Will this be enough to combat bird flu? No one knows for sure, but it is an excellent start. So, consider all this in 2006.
